Method Statements

Create and submit method statements that set out how work will be carried out safely. This covers documents such as SWMS, JSA, JHA, and SOPs. This guide explains how to build a method statement, submit it for review, and track worker sign-on.

Creating a Method Statement

If you have been granted permission to create method statements, you can build them in the Method Statements register.

  1. Go to the Method Statements register
  2. Click New
  3. Choose an activity type
  4. Build the job steps

Building the Job Steps

Each job step describes one part of the task. For every step:

  • Add a description of the step
  • Assign a responsible person
  • Drag steps to reorder them into the correct sequence

For each step, capture the safety detail:

  • Hazards, with a risk level before and after controls are applied
  • Control measures that reduce the risk

Then set the overarching requirements for the whole method statement:

  • PPE requirements
  • Required licences
  • Any files to attach

You can save your work as a draft at any time and come back to it.

Submitting for Review

When the method statement is ready, submit it for review and the status becomes for review. The host then accepts or rejects it. If it is rejected, you will see a comment explaining why; edit the document and resubmit.

Worker Sign-On

Once a method statement is accepted, workers sign on to confirm they have read and understood it. Sign-on happens in one of two ways:

  • Via an emailed link: the worker reviews the summary, acknowledges it, and clicks Sign On. The link expires after 48 hours.
  • In person: recorded on site.

You can view sign-on progress, including how many of the workers have signed on so far.

A public register and worker sign-on pages are also available via secure links, so workers can access them without logging in.

What Guests Cannot Do

Acceptance and the sign-on process sit with the host. Guests cannot:

  • Accept, reject, or delete method statements
  • Manage activity types
  • Send sign-on requests or record in-person sign-ons

Reviewing the document and managing worker sign-on are handled by the project host.
