AI credits

AI credits measure use of Teralo's AI features. Each organisation has a weekly allowance of credits, and each person has a daily limit. Credits are not billed: when they run out, the AI features pause until the allowance resets.

• One credit is 1,000 tokens, the pieces of text the model reads and writes for a call: your question, the instructions and project data sent with it, and the answer.
• Each call costs at least one credit, rounded up to a whole credit.
• A question in AI Chat counts as one call. Each search the assistant runs sends the conversation to the model again, so a question that reads several tools costs more.
• Text the model reports as served from its cache counts at a quarter.
• Reading pages of a document is a separate call, with its own minimum.

The allowance belongs to the organisation and depends on its account: a host organisation has a larger allowance than a guest organisation, and an enterprise agreement a larger one again. Teralo can set a different figure for an organisation.

The week starts on Monday at midnight UTC, which is 10 am or 11 am on Monday in eastern Australia. Unused credits don't carry over.

Each person can spend 500 credits a day, across every organisation they spend from. The limit resets at midnight UTC. Teralo doesn't show how much of the daily limit you have used.

• Host staff spend the host organisation's credits on its projects.
• A guest spends their own organisation's credits, unless their permission template on the project includes Can use the host organisation AI allowance (the Host AI allowance row in the template editor). A guest whose membership of their own organisation is still pending spends the host's credits.

Two features don't follow this rule. The editor's AI assistant spends the credits of the organisation you're working in, and estimating spends the credits of the organisation that owns the estimate.

On a host's project, the AI credits panel in the top bar says which organisation pays: "AI in this project spends your organisation's credits." or "AI in this project spends credits from" the host.

Host staff can see whose credits each guest spends, and how many of the host's credits they have used this week: in the project sidebar, under Project Settings, select Permissions, then User Assignments. Learn more about permission templates.

The AI credits panel lists usage under these names:

• AI Chat: questions in AI Chat.
• Chat titles: naming a new conversation.
• 3D model chat: the chat in the BIM viewer.
• Document page read: the assistant reading pages of a document, in AI Chat or through a connector.
• Document autofill: filling in a document's details from its file.
• Report generation: Describe your report in the report builder.
• Workflow builder AI: drafting a workflow from a description.
• Editor AI assistant: the AI assistant in text editors.
• SDS extraction, Method statement extraction, Locations extraction, Direct cost extraction, Tender quote extraction, Estimating drawing autofill and Estimating quote extraction: reading an uploaded file to fill in the details.
• Organisation enrichment: looking up an organisation when the add organisation form opens.

Opening AI Chat costs nothing, including its Waiting on you cards. Selecting a card sends its question, which does spend credits. A connected assistant spends credits only when it reads pages of a document. Learn more about connectors.

Point at the sparkles icon in the top bar to open the AI credits panel. It shows the credits used this week out of the allowance, the reset date, and the credits each feature has used. The panel opens when you point at the icon with a mouse; it doesn't open on a tap. It appears on tablets and computers, not on phones.

A guest spending the host's credits sees their own organisation's figures in the panel, not the host's.

Once half of the weekly allowance is used, the number of credits left shows beside the send button in AI Chat, the AI Chat dashboard card, the 3D model chat and the workflow builder's AI panel, on every screen size. Point at it to see the full figure.

The number is grey from half, amber from 80 per cent and red when the credits are used up. The sparkles icon in the top bar turns amber and red at the same points. The number is hidden when it would describe a different organisation from the one paying for your next question.

The question that uses the last credits is answered. The next one is refused until the allowance resets.

• In AI Chat, a refused question shows only "AI response failed. Please try again.", or nothing for the first question in a new conversation. Check the AI credits panel.
• In the other AI features, the message says which limit you reached, how many credits are used and when they reset. A guest paying from its own allowance is also told it can ask the host to share theirs.
• Uploading a safety data sheet, or a new method statement PDF, needs credits: Teralo reads the file before storing it. Other uploads work, without the details filled in.

Everything else in Teralo works as usual. If Teralo can't check the allowance, it lets the request through.

• Ask about one thing at a time. A question that reads one tool uses fewer credits than one that reads several.
• Start with a slash command. It opens the right area for the assistant before it starts.
• Give a page number when you ask about a drawing, so the assistant reads only that page.
• Use Ask mode when you only want an answer. The assistant is sent fewer tools.

Nobody in your organisation can change the allowance. Teralo sets it. Learn more about plans and entitlements, or contact support.
